This August, we shine our SEASPAR Spotlight on Michael Drabik, an extraordinary individual whose presence and dedication have left a lasting impact on our community. Michael’s journey with SEASPAR has been nothing short of inspiring, and we are honored to celebrate his achievements and contributions.
Michael’s journey with SEASPAR began many years ago, and throughout his time with us, he has demonstrated exceptional athletic prowess along with an enduring positive attitude. As a pentathlete in Special Olympics track and field, Michael showcased his versatility by excelling in the long jump, high jump, 800-meter run, 100-meter run, and shot put. His commitment to teamwork was evident as he also participated in the 4×100 meter relay, running alongside his fellow athletes with determination and spirit.
Under the guidance of our Athletics Coordinator, Matt Gorecki, Michael’s diligent work and dedication paid off, leading him to win gold twice at both the Special Olympics Illinois Regional and State Summer Games. His achievements in track and field are a testament to his skill, dedication, and love of the sport. Michael is the definition of an ideal athlete – he competes with passion, maintains a friendly demeanor, and embodies a positive attitude whether he wins or loses.
Beyond track and field, Michael’s athletic talents extended to basketball and flag football, where he continued to shine. His enthusiasm and commitment to sports were evident in every game, practice, and competition. Michael’s love for participation extended beyond athletics; he embraced every opportunity to engage with the SEASPAR community. From tearing up the dance floor to staying in dorms with friends during state Summer Games, Michael’s infectious energy and zest for life enriched every event he attended.
Michael’s presence at SEASPAR was marked by his ability to balance fun and focus. He knew when to joke around and when to take things seriously, making him a beloved member of our community. His interactions with staff and fellow participants were always characterized by respect and friendship.
As Michael and his family move to Indiana to be closer to loved ones, we bid farewell to an exceptional athlete and a cherished friend. Michael will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire us. We are grateful for the time we had with him and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
